Day 01 Highlights from #Defsat2025! 💥 #Food for #Thought! 💥 🌌 Insights from the session on "Understanding Military-Grade Standards: Certifications Processes for India’s Defence Space Sector". Reflecting on the challenges in space technology development, emphasis was laid on the complexity and time-intensive nature of realizing products and conducting rigorous testing processes, the timeline for space-related applications is particularly prolonged, citing the lack of essential infrastructure as an example, such as facilities for printing circuits, as a key bottleneck. This underscores the pressing need for enhanced infrastructure and streamlined processes to accelerate innovation in the space sector~Ms J S Manjula, Additional General Manager,LCA-EW&A, Bharat Electronics Limited (@BEL_CorpCom ) "Design and development in India's defence sector, exemplified by DRDO's advancements in wireless military communication via satellites and radios, must be mirrored in the space industry. While standards exist in bits and pieces, the time has come to create a unifying document tailored specifically for the space defence sector, unlocking India's vast potential and ensuring cohesive, high-quality innovation." ~ Mr. L C Mangal, Director, DEAL, @DRDO_India "Military-grade standards differ from regular standards primarily due to their higher precision and accuracy, which often results in more time-consuming processes. These standards can be found in sources such as the US Department of Defense, NASA, SpaceX, and India's own Military Airworthiness Procedures (2023). In India, similar standards can be found in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) guidelines, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) protocols, and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which help ensure the robustness and reliability of military and space technologies." ~ Col Surender Rohilla, Standard Development Authority,DPP, Ministry of Defence of India "Design and quality departments often work in silos, creating a disconnect that hinders the seamless integration of innovation with established standards. Due to the over-qualification of standards, innovation frequently takes a back seat, stifling creativity. Startups and innovative young minds must therefore strike a delicate balance, embracing quality as a guiding principle while ensuring that innovation remains at the forefront of technological advancement." ~ Ms M Neelavathy, Outstanding Scientist Deputy Director, @isro "Space is niche, harsh, unforgiving, and inaccessible. Given its security implications and the need for compliance with both national and international standards, it is crucial that a new standard be set for defence space. This standard should not be developed in isolation but holistically, replacing rigidity with flexibility. Having standards is not enough; cultivating a culture of standards is essential for sustained success and innovation."~Mr. Dr. Vinod S Chippalkatti, President SEBU, @centumelec Electronics Ltd.

Day 01 Highlights from #Defsat2025! 💥 #Food for #Thought! 💥 🌌 Insights from the session on "Pillars of Strength: Foundational Technologies for Defence Space Resilience". "Defence forces operate on functional requirements, relying on enablers and executors to deliver results. To strengthen these systems, the integration of legal expertise and economists is crucial, ensuring robust frameworks while aligning with the government’s budgetary responsibilities." ~ Mr Sudheer K Kumar, Former Director, CBPO, @isro - Indian Space Research Organization HQ "Space assets face growing vulnerabilities, particularly from cyber threats. India must adopt a 'Sparta-like' approach, focusing on satellite and ground station hardening, supply chain security, and developing countermeasures akin to a cyber ASAT, similar to emerging US initiatives." ~ Mr Suhas Gopinath, Founder, @GlobalsInc . "The interface between government, industry, MSMEs, and start-ups must break free from siloed thinking. With technology advancing at an unprecedented pace, India must focus on cutting down dependency through indigenisation. From womb to tomb, India must prioritise building robust space and cyber technologies for a self-reliant future." ~ Cdr K G Sarup Kumar (Retd), @AgnikulCosmos "Docking and refueling in space is rapidly becoming a pivotal industry, essential for managing and curtailing satellite traffic. Tanker satellites offer enhanced manoeuvrability and significantly extend the lifespan of satellites, marking a critical step toward sustainable space operations." ~ Mr SAKTHIKUMAR R, CEO, @OrbitAID Aerospace "Surveillance and observation rely on data, but data transfer consumes significant energy. With the rise of small satellite constellations and satellite miniaturisation, embedding intelligence within satellites to filter data before transmission is key. This approach ensures both data precision and energy efficiency, revolutionising modern space operations." ~ Mr Vikas Arora, VP-Business development, @logicfruit Technologies "Resiliency, the ability to recover from failure and return to an acceptable level of operations, is paramount in modern space systems. While the Outer Space Treaty of 1967 banned nuclear weapons and WMDs, it left gaps, failing to address other kinds of weapons including kinetic weapons. Achieving resiliency requires both architectural ingenuity and technological advancement, ensuring sustainable and secure operations in space." ~ Dr Ashok Saxena, CEO, SpaceTS

Day 01 Highlights from #Defsat2025! 💥 #Food for #Thought! 💥 🌌 Insights from the session on "AI-Enabled Mosaic Warfare: Transforming Multi-Domain Operations for Next-Gen Defence Space". " As space and cyber warfare emerge as forms of standoff conflict in the global commons, their integration demands collaboration across military, industrial, and scientific communities. Non-kinetic warfare is no longer the purview of the military alone but a shared responsibility of diverse stakeholders driving innovation and resilience" ~ Lt Gen PJS Pannu, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), PhD, Senior Advisor, SIA-India "In recent decades, wars grew swifter with technological superiority, but they are now becoming prolonged as innovation transcends borders, breaking the monopoly of a few nations and leveling the battlefield." ~ Maj Gen Rakesh Pandey, Corps of Signals "Brain science will define victory or defeat in modern warfare, as human capability remains unmatched. India must accelerate innovation, file more IPRs, and cultivate scientists of warrior-grade caliber, while warriors evolve to embrace the precision of scientists—blurring the lines between intellect and combat." ~ Col. Rajneesh Ralli (Retd), VP-Growth Operations, Dhruva Space "Autonomous navigation in manned and unmanned vehicles relies on active and passive sensors, yet even with all these inputs, human decision-making reaches its limits. The true enabler is AI/ML, transforming data into decisive action with unmatched speed and precision." ~ Dr Shubhashisa Sahoo, Scientist-F, CAIR, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India "Battle plans can now be fed into AI/ML systems using large language models (LLMs), simplifying command processes in plain English. However, the challenge lies in addressing LLM hallucinations. Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2) bridges this gap by excelling in three critical areas: identifying the enemy and their intent, implementing operational rules and constraints, and transforming diverse sensor data into actionable intelligence." ~ Mr Sai Krishna, CEO, Saptang Labs "Achieving the appropriate level of Command and Control requires the seamless engagement of all systems, but identifying and integrating these systems remains a critical challenge. C4ISR systems, by their very nature, are software-intensive. For India to build its indigenous C4ISR capabilities, a strong foundation in software is essential. While India is a global software hub, young technocrats must be guided and mentored to navigate this specialised domain and contribute effectively to national defence innovation." ~ Cmde S K Pujari, Chief Technolgy Advisor, C2C Advanced Systems
