As anticipated, the region experienced a clear break in #monsoon activity until 19th July. With this lull has contributed to #Konkan currently witnessing one of its poorest July performances in at least the last five years.
While interior Konkan saw a particularly poor monsoon in 2020, and the entire Konkan region experienced a deficient monsoon in 2015, the complete picture for July 2025 will only be clear at the end of the month, especially with an active phase now commencing.
Let's examine some key rainfall statistics for the #Kokan region as of 20th #July, 2025:
Including #Goa, Konkan is -13% deficit as per IMD subdivision stats..
But Excluding Goa, #Kokan is on -28% deficit !
A). #Mumbai SCZ: The July 2025 rainfall total stands at a mere 285 mm, representing a significant -51% deficit from its average. For context, the driest July on record for #Santacruz was a mere 103 mm in 2002.
B). #Colaba: The July 2025 rainfall total is just 143 mm, indicating a substantial large deficit of -72%. The driest July on record for Colaba was 78 mm in 1979.
C). #Alibaug Town: Recorded 250 mm, showing a -53% deficit.
D). #Ratnagiri Town: Registered 484 mm, which is a -30% deficit.
E). District-wise Deficits/Surpluses:
1). #Thane & #Raigad districts: Both are experiencing a -26% deficit.
2). #Palghar: Shows a -12% deficit.
3). #Ratnagiri district: While at -16% deficit.
Though above two districts remains within the normal category according to IMD classification.
4). #Sindhudurg district: This is the lone district in the entire #Konkan region showing a positive surplus of +7%.
This data clearly illustrates a widespread rainfall deficiency across most of Konkan for July 2025 so far, with only Sindhudurg managing to maintain a positive deviation.
The upcoming active phase will be crucial for improving these figures by some extent.

From 16th to 19th or 20th #July, rainfall activity is expected to significantly reduce, effectively ceasing over the #Konkan and #Ghats sections. This anticipated break in Southwest Monsoon (SWM) conditions will be driven by a combination of factors:
1). Dry Air Incursion: The intrusion of dry air into the region from NW desert will substantially reduce atmospheric moisture.
2). Weakening Westerlies: Concurrently, a weakening of the monsoon's westerly winds will further limit moisture transport and convergence.
During this period, only localized pop-up showers will be possible, which are typically short-lived and highly scattered.
