The Declaration of Principles (#DoP) for International Election Observation - Implementation Meeting kicked off on 10 December 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland 🇨🇭. This year's session commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the #DoP20 to recommitting to democratic elections. About 90 participants, in particular DoP endorsing organisations across the world, including the @_AfricanUnion attended the opening session. Addressing the audience on behalf of the AUC Chairperson, HE Dr Girma Amente Nono, Permanent Representative of the AU to the UN Office in Geneva and other International Organisations stated clearly that the AU recommits itself to the global effort of democratization through effective electoral observation.

Speaking at the #DoP20, during the session dedicated to the taking stock of the 2 decades of the #DoP, the @_AfricanUnion Director for Governance and Conflict Prevention, Ms @PatienceChirad3, recalled that the AU's role is not only to observe elections, but also to assist its member states to improve in terms of their electoral processes depending on respective context.
