July 29th 1966 Cream take to the stage for the very first time at Manchester's Twisted Wheel. The low-key affair was sparsely attended and it all began in that sweaty Northern Soul setting, for a crowd that wasn’t quite sure who Cream (or “The” Cream as they were first billed) were. They played “Crossroads,” “I’m So Glad,” and “Spoonful,” as well as the instrumental “Toad” and Bruce’s “Traintime.”
