On February 13, 2026, in Delta Township, Eaton County, Michigan, 21-year-old Alexander Lamar Banks Jr. allegedly carried out a violent attack on a family who were out for a walk. He intentionally drove his sedan into a mother, father, and their 3-year-old daughter, striking and kïlling the child. He then got out of the vehicle, retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun from a backpack, and fired multiple rounds at the parents and the already-injured child. After reloading, he fired again. When a 72-year-old woman arrived at the scene to help, he assaulted her with the shotgun used as a club, leaving hair and flesh on the barrel. The entire incident was captured on a nearby doorbell camera. The 3-year-old girl died from her injuries. The parents were hospitalized and listed in stable condition. The 72-year-old woman remained in critical condition. Banks was arrested shortly afterward in nearby Lansing. During interviews with detectives, he admitted to taking his father's shotgun, loading ammunition into a backpack, and driving around the neighborhood several times looking for victims. He told police he believed he was receiving online threats telling him to kïll someone in order to “save his family,” which he said motivated the attack.
