Some people think far. Could the whole point of the PUB be to collapse the public University system so that private universities becomes the only viable option? Similar to how private secondary will become the preferred option even to those who can barely afford it? #dropthePUB
From beginning to end, the PUB is bad for higher education. Clause 1 removes the power to establish a university from parliament and vests it in the hands of one person--the Min of Education. That same minister can write a university out of existence (Clause 53). Why? #dropthePUB
he last clause of the 'revised' PUB (Clause 56) provides that, immediately after the PUB is passed, all Councils of Public Universities are immediately converted into Interim Councils for up to a year and the President may change their composition. Why?

This bill has been in the process over a year or close. Every issue every single stakeholder has, has been communicated extensively to all the parties involved so I will be surprised if the VP or anyone in government says they are now going to hear the sides again. #dropthePUB
VP @MBawumia has just been briefed on outstanding issues on the Public Universities Bill. Having listened to Parliament, UTAG & Education Ministry, he has made some suggestions. Chair of Education Ctee, Hon Quaitoo, in whose hands the bill is, will update the press soon.
I suspect very strongly that the #PublicUniversitiesBill has parts of its roots in the characteristic failure by the Education and Health Ministries to wrestle the #UGMC from the hands of @UnivofGh

For those who can’t see the danger, if this Public University Bill is passed,
* the President becomes the Chancellor
* he/she then appoints the chairman of the University council
* appoints most of the members of the university council.
So indirectly, all these positions ...
