The NDP has no credibility on this issue, as surgical wait times grew more and more out of control during their term, long before the pandemic increased the strain on health care around the world.   Alberta’s government is working to improve health care delivery to ensure Albertans are receiving the care they need, when and where they need it. 
We have made steady progress towards our goal of improving surgical wait times. In fact, the latest waitlist data shows more Albertans are waiting within clinically recommended times than at any time since 2020.   Currently, 61.1 per cent of surgeries are occurring within their clinically recommended wait times. This is an improvement from only 47.3 per cent in November 2022. For the 2023/24 year, Alberta is on track to complete the highest number of surgeries ever performed in this province at 310,000 surgeries.   We also know there is more work to be done. This is why Alberta’s government is re-focusing the health care system will enable Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health and chartered surgical facilities to speed up access to quality care.
