Forgot to add the cross-sections from the same time. Me=fail. #hail #dualpol note the low ZDR values extending to the SFC, lower CC as well, collocated w/ the reflectivity max from mid lvl’s to SFC.

Time to geek out! #severeweather is battering #oklahoma currently. Starting to see storms fire up just as it’s beginning to get dark. Below is diff reflectivity from #dualpol radar which helps us identify updrafts, hydrometeor size, & type! Seeing hail with these storms.

Heavy precipitation northeast of Hartford? Not so fast... Good example here of a radar artifact known as bright-banding, where melting snowflakes at the radar beam level appear as giant raindrops to the radar and “reflect” more energy back. #ctwx #mawx #riwx #dualpol

A #dualpol might transmit in one polarisation but receive in 2⃣, resulting in either HH & HV or VH & VV imagery. Dual polarisation provides additional detail about surface features through different & complementary echoes. /2 #DYK!!

@GauravSeth93 @SistersofSAR @csa_asc From a Sea ice application perspective, #CP is great. I would give it an 8 in terms of information that you can extract compared to #QP. The big advantage of #CP is the swath width which is close to what we can get in #DualPol.

@GauravSeth93 @SistersofSAR @csa_asc Tough question @GauravSeth93. Speaking only for agriculture (my app) - QP is the cadillac 10/10. We've found CP much better than DP, but not quite as good as QP. But CP has great swath coverage. Now you've started the debate! Wait until more CP data gets in hands of researchers!
