I am up next talking about the white dwarf opportunity: which rocks and minerals make up a planet? #DustDevils24
This week @dvcotton (left of picture) has been at the #DustDevils24 in Tucson in Arizona presenting results and learning about the analogues of the asteroid belt and Kuiper belt in other star systems.
Justin Hom now presenting own work on a simulation and characterisation pipeline for Debris Discs with Roman with the aim to demonstrate the power of Roman in detecting and resolving warm debris belts and exozodiacal dust - can retrieve parameters of the input disc #DustDevils24
Hiroshi Kobayashi investigates the effect of collisional damping in a collisional cascade in a debris disc by conducting collision and velocity evolution simulations and finds that collisional damping is inefficient in a mature collisional cascade #DustDevils24
Antranik Sefilian kicks off day 3 of #DustDevils24 giving a comprehensive review on dynamics theory in debris disks
Cicero Lu presents a great talk on gas emission from JWST observations, keep an eye on the literature for the results! I did enjoy the demonstration of UV fluorescence with a curtain #DustDevils24
Second up is Isabel Rebollido showing us gorgeous images of Beta Pic taken with JWST, you can see the main disk plane, extended inclined secondary disk, and a cats tail - evidence for a recent collision? #DustDevils24
And we are back for day 2 of #DustDevils24 with Schuyler Wolff taking us on a tour of observations of debris discs from Hubble scattered light images, all the way to new JWST images of the inner disks
Brianna Zawadzki talking next on Resolving Vertical Structures in Millimeter Debris Disk Observations with ARKS - just wanted to note that all ARKS results cannot be tweeted so you’ll have to trust me that all the results are awesome! #DustDevils24
Final talk of the session is by Patricia Luppe talking about gorgeous new high resolution images of HD32297 with an aim of resolving the vertical and radial structure and seeing if these change as a function of wavelength #DustDevils24
Final talk of session 1 by Haochang Jiang discussing how planet formation is difficult in smooth disks, but pebble rings are the perfect birthplace of planets, even at ultra-wide orbits (> 50au) and these models can explain the HR 8799 system #DustDevils24
Next up at #DustDevils24 is Josh Lovell who is talking about using the SMA to do a survey of Taurus YSOs - Josh finds that of the Class II stars - 17/17 have disk detections, but for Class III stars - 0/18 have disk detections so there is a clear and quick evolutionary step
Amazing to see so many familiar disk faces at #DustDevils24 in Tucson, AZ!
Including a little reunion here of the @CenterForAstro SMA fellows past and present 📡 @JBLovellAstro
