🗞️ Leestip: Alarmerende stijging van jongeren zonder werk of onderwijs
Uit recente cijfers van het CBS blijkt dat het aantal jongeren tussen de 15 en 27 jaar zonder werk en scholing de afgelopen jaren fors is gestegen. Maar liefst 126.000 jongeren zaten vorig jaar in deze situatie - een stijging van 27% sinds 2021. Opvallend is dat ruim 60% van hen aangeeft vanwege ziekte niet te kunnen werken.
📢 Long covid is een serieus probleem, geen speculatie!
Onderzoek toont aan dat een aanzienlijk deel van deze groep te maken heeft met long covid. Studies laten zien dat 5% van de jongeren langdurige klachten houdt na een covid-infectie. Dit is een gigantische groep jongeren. Long covid kan leiden tot uitval op school en werk, met ingrijpende gevolgen voor hun toekomst.
🔎 Het is goed dat long covid als mogelijke verklaring wordt genoemd. Toch noemt CBS-hoofdeconoom Van Mulligen dit nog ‘speculatie’. Dit bagatelliseert een groeiend probleem dat al jaren wordt aangetoond in wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Het is tijd dat er structureel aandacht en ondersteuning komt voor jongeren die door long covid vastlopen!
💡 Wat moet er gebeuren?
👉 Erkenning van long covid als serieuze aandoening die jongeren hard treft
👉 Toegang tot gespecialiseerde zorg
👉 Meer wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar long covid
👉 Beleidsmaatregelen om deze groep niet verder tussen wal en schip te laten vallen
