Really enjoyed the Neuropsychology debate this evening! The live link worked a treat. Only wish the thought cloud had been shared verbally with us viewers. But thank you ever so much #ECPDebates! More please, definitely a need!
@ucledpsych Do educational psychologists need to know about neuropsychology? I followed the #ECPDebates online tonight, thanks to all involved. I got to enjoy the debate, feel v techy and all without skipping dinner or missing the kids’ bedtime either, win win!
@ucledpsych @CostelloGem Well done everyone. It was really interesting to hear the discussion. Great moderator @SandraPsych #ECPDebates
Question for panel. What are your views on neuropsychology and whether this field lends itself more to labelling than it does to informing practice? If the observed behaviours and support strategies are the same, does it matter what the root cause is? #ECPDebates
Great answer by Rachel Cole. The brain has a lot of power. Perhaps partly because of what Alan Jasanoff has called the ‘cerebral mystique’ of neuroscience. If it’s about something complex like the brain it must be helpful and true. #ECPDebates
@ucledpsych The paper Dr Cole is thinking of is 'The Seductive Allure of Neuroscience Explanations' https://t.co/y2zLpEl4sL #ECPDebates
How can teacher training include critical and relevant aspects of neuropsychology eg EF and impact on learning... surely this is the stating point so every pupil benefits #ecpdebates
@ucledpsych Having an understanding of neuropsychology doesn't necessarily force you to use the deficit model; allows for wider consideration. #ECPDebates
Question for panel: In this Mental Health Awareness Week, how much can a better understanding of neuropsychology improve EP practice with children and young people with the kinds of ‘low to mid level’ mental health difficulties that CAMHS are struggling to manage? #ECPDebates
The psychologist may take an holistic perspective but ‘scores’ are often given more credence by parents, teachers and SEN officers so we need to always place the neuropsychology assessment in context to counter this #ECPDebates
Currently watching ‘Do EPs need to know about neuropsychology?’ live on YouTube. Interesting debate. #ECPDebates #adayinthelifeofan_EP #surreyeps
Excellent points made from Dr Douglas about celebrating neurodiveristy rather than only defining CYP by a cluster of deficits. I wonder how Dr Gemma and Dr Rachel view ‘the context’ of the child? #ECPDebates
Can EP training provider's support neuroscience in doctoral research to bridge gap? Stronger ties need to be established to do this #ecpdebates
Is it possible to develop a neuropsychological formulation w/o use of cog assessment? #ECPDebates
Neuro-myths like learning styles are influential and persistent. What do we need to do to communicate more effectively with teachers about neuroscience? #ECPDebates
