A. @JuanManSantos : Killings by drug traffickers objecting to crop substitution or by paramilitaries resisting land restitution. But is the State complicit? #EMlecture
@JuanManSantos : Colombia “is very legalistic.” This made prosecutions policy “too detailed.” I agree. Not only is Colombia “too legalistic” — some human rights NGOs cc: regional @hrw people privilege prosecutions as if it’s the only or most important form of justice #EMlecture

Q. You mention #SouthAfrica which, like #Colombia has problems with vast inequality and redistributing land. How can you pursue reconciliation without addressing those challenges?
A. Colombia hasn’t been able to address rural poverty, needs to deliver 1M+ land titles #EMlecture
#EMLecture | There is a difference between peacemaking and peace building; making is quick and done, building takes a long time. Victims and their right to justice needs to be the center of the negotiations.

A. I sought advice from some people who were involved in the peace processes of #Israel & #Palestine, #ElSalvador and #NorthernIreland | #EMlecture #transitionaljustice
Interesting thought by @NandoTravesi, @theICTJ introducing #emlecture - since WWII, more conflicts were recurring cycles of unaddressed grievances than new conflicts.
