It's just utter #bullshit and #nonsense that the EU profits from US research. The contrary is the case. But Americans usually don't understand global trade, because they don't know how the system works.
The EU has a precautionary system (#ExAnte). Companies must do intensive research and provide evidence of product risk prior to market approval. This means high starting costs, but low punitive damages in exchange. While the US has a remedial system (#ExPost) with high punitive damages, but lower starting costs.
In the USA the risk is on the company, in the EU the risk is on the regulator and the government.
With trade deals (which the USA not the EU wants!!!!) US companies can easily export and sell medication to the EU, despite not following EU approval processes. De facto Europeans can consume toxic products and can't even really sue, because the courts don't allow billion dollar lawsuits.
Meanwhile the companies can have low research, approval and production costs (due to lack of workers rights) in the USA, while selling at a reasonable good price in the EU.
They can sell high in the USA, because of the very fractured health insurance system, that prevents insurers from negotiating reasonable prices.
It's an urban myth that medication is sold in the EU below production price.
The medicines are produced at a certain costs, lowering US prices to the lowest world wide cost, will only lead to #BigPharma moving all production to the lowest cost country, while raising the prices everywhere, screwing over people globally, who can't afford US prices.
The USA, @RobertKennedyJr and Trump could've solved the issue by requiring BigPharma to produce medication in the USA when domestically sold, and cap pure revenue to 30% max.
