The one in orbit has enough horizontal velocity to overcome the distance it falls to maintain a constant height above, and thus stay in orbit.

NH receives 4% more intensity bc of dist in Winter.
But @ 40N lat, that is spread over 2x the surface area vs Summer.
In totality a 48% decrease in Winter vs Summer @ 40N.
Not accounting for shorter days, either.

@frsfrsfrsss That’s bc the diff in dist is negligible. But the tilt is not. And in winter the NH receives sig less W/m^2 than in the summer, bc the Sun’s ☀️angle to the Zenith is larger - same light hits greater area.

Nope. I researched it.
In fact, I had not really thought about proving the shape of the Earth 🌍 until I saw #FlatEarth arguments. Thanks to #FlatEarth, I now unequivocally know #EarthIsASphere.
If you send a rocket straight up, it comes straight back down.
#NASA sends rockets 🚀 into #Orbit. In order to reach LEO, need a tangential (horizontal) velocity of ~ 17,500 mph. That is why most rockets have a launch arc to horizontal.
