Close, but no cigar.
#Edge #computing is anywhere between the actual physical „thing“ (like in #IoT/#IIoT) and your #cloud (i.e., the 1st „place“ where you don‘t care where it physically lies.).
That‘s why @SoftwareAG talks about the #EdgeContinuum or #C2E #Cloud2Edge.
Gartner defines #edgecomputing as solutions that facilitate data processing at or near the source of data generation. Find out more in this article: https://t.co/GWpBS4hPpn
@InsightsonIoT via @CRudinschi #MSA_iiot #sponsored #industry40 #iiot #IoTExpo #IndustrialMetaverse
… this is why we at @SoftwareAG call this the #EdgeContinuum.
And non-functional requirements such as #bandwidth, #latency, processing power, and #security (to name the most prominent ones) determine how close to the #IoT endpoint your particular #edge lies.
"Edge deployments in IoT are highly diverse and exist within a spectrum between 'thin' and 'thick'," says @JoshTaubenation in @iotforall. https://t.co/s2ThqX496v
@antgrasso … and if you do #edge computing with #cloud-native architecture, you actually get #fog-computing.
BTW, the idea of „an“ edge, i.e., a particular point between #IoT endpoint and cloud, is flawed. We see an #EdgeContinuum or #C2E (cloud-to-edge) continuum emerge.

Nice statistics!
I would even further distinguish between
1️⃣multi-cloud
2️⃣edge
And #edge is even more difficult than #cloud b/c you have the #EdgeContinuum between #IoT endpoints and cloud.

I'll be scouting the #5G #PrivateNetwork and #EdgeContinuum landscape in @IMCNewsdesk's #IoT Days looking for ways to identify efficient solutions.
