I believe one of the biggest challenges to change is not necessarily the buy-in. The biggest challenge is leaders unwilling to push for 2nd Order change, We need to ask the tough questions and shake to foundation to make the system better for our kids! #EDLE5330

A6: 1st Order change to fine tune our current systems. 2nd Order is when we are trying to break down the walls and shake up the foundation to make big things happen. We just need to make sure that the 2nd Order change will have a meaningful and lasting impact for S's #EDLE5330

@aggiejenny06 I figured! Once I watched the video I had a clue the ideas were linked. Our campus posts our why by our mailboxes so you see it everyday. #edle5330

I connected with the explanation in the text: single loop v. double loop. A first order change follows a circular thought process of "plug and chug" solutions. Second order change needs a whole 'nother loop, y'all! #edle5330

@DoughneyJ @aojeda288 I loved this video. I think after people or teachers are in one spot for awhile they forget the why. Westfall has been presenting this idea for a few years. #edle5330

A6: First Order/Sustaining = day-to-day changes that fine-tune already functioning systems. Does not radically change the status quo. #EDLE5330

@DoughneyJ Q 6 Sustaining are existing and can be woven into existing strategies without systematic change. Disruptive are outside of current systems and require significant time to see change. Sustaining are easier to have buy in. Disruptive take extensive leadership support. #EDLE5330

@ksuhr22 @RayerTerri @DoughneyJ We moved to Restorative Practices two years ago. We still have parents that question the method, some have even chosen to attend another campus. We keep communicating, sharing and sticking to it. #EDLE5330

Our campus is trying out 1:1 laptops for students in grades 2-6th. One great resource in place since the beginning is GoGaurdian, an app that allows teachers to see, control, and record what students are doing on the computer. #EDLE5330 They can even cast!

@RayerTerri @DoughneyJ Yes, both with current parents and as part of the new parent orientation. Some get it. Some still don't. Running laps during recess doesn't solve the disagreement with the classmate in class! #EDLE5330

Some high leverage questions no matter the change I think are the following: How will this affect our students authentic learning? What will our students and community gain from this change? How do we get the community on board with the change? #EDLE5330

@DoughneyJ @Cho213 @lamargeorge5 I like this. It helps to keep the relationship component in perspective. #EDLE5330
