When a child self harms, it is incredibly distressing. Most often, the action of inflicting pain is a response to current or previous trauma. When we examine the gender affirmation process through trauma informed lens, as a form of self-harm, the link between the "transchild" and the child who is a victim of trauma and self harming becomes very clear. The child seeking a new "gender identity" is fleeing unbearable pain under the illusion (magical thinking) that they can identify out of the pain and shame of past sexual abuse, for example. In addition, binding, tucking, taking puberty-blockers, cross sex hormones all harm the body and can help relieve feelings of distress. For this reason, alone, any child claiming a trans identity should be dealt with in a trauma informed manner. That means working with them on the SOURCE of their feelings of pain and anomie. As opposed to the gender affirmative methodology, which DELIBERATELY sets out to ignore past pain and trauma, in favour of creating a new identity. (And yes, working in a trauma informed manner will be regarded under proposed legislation as conversion therapy.) Do we really hate our children, such that their suffering is deliberately ignored and buried under a new identity. Just to produce a "transchild" whose purpose is to validate a male sexual fetish and enrich quack medicine and the trans lobby?
