@1fifthavenue @eldiablo0786 @BhamCityCouncil @Ms_SThompson @bordesleygreen @AdamLocal @BarbaraDring This #exemptconference was about ticking a box and making it look like they are doing something. If Birmingham City Council are genuine, they would have had Eddie O’Hara @Allbirminghams at centre stage because there’s children living in poor standard housing too. 4
@BhamCityCouncil @SpringHousing How ironic is that Spring Housing are involved in a Charter of Rights for residents, and it was Spring Housing who was first exposed by @AdamLocal

Spring Housing were evicting tenants during lockdow. #ExemptConference

In #Brum today in spite of the trains to attend #ExemptConference well done to all involved and thanks to @Ms_SThompson for the invite. Complex issue that is finally starting to be better understood & getting traction to make changes #safercommunities

Today hundreds of people came together to share their experience of exempt supported accommodation, from local residents who've experienced anti social behaviour to providers.
It certainly was an opportunity for many to address their frustrations. #ExemptConference #exempt

Thank you @Ms_SThompson & @BhamCityCouncil for today's #ExemptConference
Lots of people in the room with first hand knowledge providers, tenants, residents, regulators, councils all with their own perspective on problem and solutions. Consensus-not always desire to progress -yes!
As someone who has supported people living in #exemptaccommodation for four years I can honestly say I have yet to see anything that directly benefits people living in often appalling conditions and without the ‘more than minimal’ support they are promised. #exemptconference
An incredible last session with Jean Templeton of @StBasilsCharity, Derek Douglas of @newrootshousing, @HARPALBATH, @Rai_Mc_Chiu and Locksley Brown of @YMCA_Bham. Good exempt accomodation is hard to define but the leading thought is that you must care! #exemptconference
A brilliantly highlighted issue kicking off the last session of today by Jean Templeton of @StBasilsCharity. The perfect storm of not being able to run services on current funding models. Really amazing to see someone like her running a much needed charity. #exemptconference
Pilot's have shown that there are ways to gate-keep exempt accommodation but that long term solutions aren't easy and that there are certainly issues around societal stigma that are exacerbating a lack of dedicated funding for care and support. Excellently put. #exemptconference
Exempt Accommodation Forum - 85% of the non-commissioned Exempt Accommodation in Birmingham is provided by 5 Registered Providers all of whom are non compliant with the Social Housing Regulator. It truly is a broken system. #ExemptConference

‘A Broken System’ #exemptconference

An incredible set of statistics by Jon Stevens of the Exempt Accommodation Forum. Horrifying reading and they've all my respect for the work they have put in to gain this information.

@JaneRockHouse As People and Politics editor for @birmingham_live when it comes to writing about local issues my more than 50 articles on Exempt Accommodation written over 4 years get the most comments. It’s also still the issue I get most emails about. #ExemptConference

@JaneRockHouse speaking passionately about the impact of the #ExemptAccommodation scandal at the #ExemptConference hosted by @BhamCityCouncil today. Really hope @BobBlackman’s Private Members Bill helps to tackle it.

"We should hold the highest aspirations for both resident experience and the exempt sector as a whole" @msfiveounces @SpringHousing #CharterOfRights #ExemptConference
The Charter of Rights brought together the lived experience of over 50 residents in Exempt Accommodation who had ownership of the whole project and co-created the final product. Thea Raisbeck, Head of Research @SpringHousing #ExemptConference

A brilliant way to kick off the afternoon session of the #exemptconference with @msfiveounces discussing the Charter of Rights created with @SpringHousing which focused on the rights, choices and autonomy of tenants in exempt accomodation.
It was like stepping back a century - there were rats, rotting food and people openly taking drugs - Sergeant Bushra Zarif from @WMPolice speaking about closing down the first Exempt Accommodation hostel in Birmingham. #ExemptConference

Really applaud the invaluable work of @Ms_SThompson, exempt accommodation has ensnared many vulnerable citizens, too many are citizens with a learning disability/learning difficulty, leaving them exposed to vile abuse, gross exploitation, poverty and squalor #ExemptConference
@Ms_SThompson There are streets in Birmingham saturated with Exempt Accommodation and Houses in Multiple Occupation. People next door wake up not knowing if their car windows will be smashed while too many vulnerable people in the homes live in unsafe conditions #ExemptConference
