On the morning of July 20, 2024, he left his home in plain clothes for the Tourist Police Headquarters in Paltan, due to the tense situation in the city. When he reached the Rayerbagh area of Jatrabari, a group of violent protestors brutally beat him to death. Afterwards, they hung his lifeless body upside down from the Rayerbagh foot overbridge as part of their protest. A disturbing photo went viral on social media, showing a man suspended upside down from the footbridge with ropes tied around his feet, his head dangling downward. A massive crowd gathered underneath. It was later confirmed that the man was indeed ASI Mohammad Moktadir. His son Mahfuz said, "When I received the photo from a police officer, I couldn’t even recognize it was my father. His body bore multiple injuries, and his skull was shattered into three pieces."
