Ruchir Sharma shared some bitter truths at the recent #ExpressAdda:
Drawing parallels to the dot com bubble of the late 1990s, Sharma said “while Indian IT companies had benefited then due to arbitrage-like business models, this time India looks devoid of any Al “play” which has made foreign investors indifferent towards the Indian markets.”
“As far as India is concerned, in my 30-year investing history, what I can tell you categorically is I've never seen such indifference towards India.”

#ExpressAdda | Sam Altman on whether #artificia intelligence (AI) companies should work with govt on #defence — and where the line is drawn if the ask is “how to get into war”.
#SamAltman said AI systems should not be used to make war-fighting decisions, adding that today’s models are not reliable or sophisticated enough for that.
He also said there are areas where AI can help already — including analysing large volumes of intelligence reports — and that defence applications may grow in the future, but with clear limits right now.

#ExpressAdda | Sam Altman, in conversation with Indian Express' @anantgoenka addressed some of the viral claims around #artificialintelligence (AI) data centres and resource use, saying numbers shared online about “17 gallons of water per query” do not reflect how most modern facilities operate.
He said evaporative cooling used to be common, but that newer data centres rely on different cooling systems. What remains a real issue, he added, is the total energy demand as AI adoption grows — and the need to move faster towards nuclear, wind and solar.
Altman also drew a distinction between the energy required to train AI models and the energy used when a trained model answers a question.
#ExpressAdda | "I don't think I ever said we won't accept advertising," said OpenAI CEO Sam, when asked about any previous statements he now regrets.
He was in conversation with The Indian Express' Anant Goenka.
Anant Goenka
