We had a great time at the Three Sisters Springs Open House/Manatee Festival!
Crystal River and Three Sisters Springs were full of manatee *magic* as visitors explored the springs, spotted these gentle giants, and enjoyed live music, crafts, and educational exhibits.
#FLDEP’s Southwest District Office joined in the fun, sharing information about manatees and their habitats with festival guests. #DidYouKnow manatees can eat up to 100 pounds of seagrass every day? It’s one of the many reasons protecting their habitat is so important!
Thanks for celebrating with us!

In #FLDEP’s Office of Emergency Response (OER), training new employees is a critical step in safeguarding both the environment and public health. 🌳😷
Recently, new employees underwent hazmat training in the Southwest District, learning to properly don multiple layers of hazmat protection, handle tools with limited dexterity caused by thick gloves and safely move and sample drums containing unknown substances. ☣️
This hands-on training supports the mission of the OER: to respond swiftly and effectively to environmental pollution threats. Whether it’s a petroleum spill, a chemical plant emergency or a coastal oil spill, OER ensures that incidents are addressed in collaboration with public safety officials and contractors to minimize risks.
With Florida recently impacted by storms Helene and Milton, this preparation is more important than ever. Emergency responders are equipped to face challenges head-on, helping protect Florida’s communities and natural resources when they’re needed most.
