UPDATE: EIPR head: State security prosecution head denied issue of detention order for Matsda2sh team The Supreme State Security Prosecution’s head denied to lawyers representing the Matsda2sh team the claim published in Al-Masry Al-Youm that a 15-day detention order for the journalists has been issued by prosecutors, according to Hossam Bahgat, the head of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights. EIPR lawyer Islam Salama confirmed that no other prosecuting body is competent to investigate the journalists, with the Supreme State Security Prosecution becoming the only qualified authority given the Interior Ministry has implicated the journalists in allegations of terrorist activity. The Journalists Syndicate sent requests to both the public prosecutor and the Supreme State Security Prosecution on Saturday asking for clarification regarding the claim that detention orders were issued for the journalists and requesting that the syndicate be notified to attend investigation sessions with them as per syndicate law, according to a statement from the syndicate. Mada Masr reached out to Al-Masry Al-Youm Editor-in-Chief Alaa al-Ghatrify and Youssry al-Badry, who is the named author of the news report, for comment on the Supreme State Security Prosecution head’s denial.
