Yesterday we lost another SEAL Legend and brother to suicide. Senior Chief Mike Day🙏🏿🔱. A couple of years ago my family and I were leaving church when my phone rang. It was Mike, which meant I had to take it. What I promised my wife would be a quick call turned into 2 hour conversation about life, storytelling and writing. Mike was struggling for a number of reasons I won’t get into, but what we discussed on that call seemed to give him hope. He was in the process of writing his life story, which became therapeutic for him and he wanted to ensure that it was written in a way that inspired people without exploiting the community. On that call, Mike talked me through his story, which was indeed beat out in a way that helped others and didn’t edify himself. I explained this to Mike, and I remember a sense of calm and hope coming over him. That calm and hope derived from the fact that through his story he would indeed be able to keep doing what he joined the Navy to do— help and serve people. The man was all about others and never about himself. He was a true TEAMMATE. And even the thought that he would come off selfish or self-edifying threw him into a mental tail spin. I know he is finally at peace. And I know his story and legacy will continue to serve and bless others. #LLTB
