#sapsEC [EC: NMB DISTRICT: SAPS AND PARTNERS TAKE GBVF AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO KWANOBUHLE]
A community campaign on gender-based violence and #Femicide (GBVF) was held in Area 11, Dubai, Kwanobuhle, on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
Organised by the Sakhuxolo Kwanobuhle Centre (VFR), the campaign brought together #SAPS, community members and local service providers to raise awareness about GBVF and connect victims and communities with available support services.
The programme opened with a prayer led by Mrs Mali. Constable C. Machiu, the GBVF Coordinator, welcomed attendees and spoke about the importance of community involvement, early intervention, and reporting incidents of gender-based violence. Machiu also explained anonymous crime-reporting options and encouraged residents to use appropriate channels when sharing information.
The campaign addressed online safety and the unlawful distribution of intimate or private sexual material. Community members were reminded that sharing such material without the required consent can cause further harm to victims and survivors and were encouraged to report incidents and seek assistance.
Warrant Officer R. Cloete, representing the GBVF coordination function, explained how to apply for protection and harassment orders.
Sergeant Khamba-Beja, the Community Policing Officer, encouraged residents to report criminal activity and work with SAPS to strengthen community safety.
The event included representatives from Kamesh Victim Support Centre, Phaphamani Rape Crisis Centre, the Department of Health, the local council and community structures.
A stakeholder discussion allowed participants to share information about GBVF prevention, community safety, and available support services. The campaign aimed to strengthen partnerships between SAPS, service providers, community structures, and residents, and to encourage collective action to prevent violence.
