Under the #FixOurPHCs campaign, our fellow Fiddausi Nasir Sulaiman implemented a transformative community intervention at the Sharada PHC.
Her project has reached 40 direct beneficiaries, providing life-changing support and education.

This is the PHC Mandara in Kokona LGA, Nasarawa State, the only primary healthcare centre serving over 6,300 residents, needs urgently intervention.
This alarming situation was uncovered by the Tracka team during a community visit to verify reports from residents and assess the true condition of the facility. What they found was shocking.
This healthcare centre, which should be a place of healing and safety, has been left to deteriorate beyond acceptable standards. From the pictures, the roof is badly damaged and wide open in several places, exposing patients, health workers, medical supplies, and equipment to rain, heat, dust, and dangerous weather conditions. The ceiling panels have fallen off completely, leaving the building looking abandoned rather than functioning as a healthcare centre.
Women come here for antenatal care, children are brought here for immunisation, sick residents depend on this centre for treatment, and emergency cases are managed here under these unsafe conditions. Imagine receiving healthcare while staring at a collapsing roof above your head. Imagine health workers trying to save lives in a facility where the building itself is a threat to life.
The walls are weak, the environment is unsafe, and there is also a severe lack of essential medical equipment needed for quality healthcare delivery. This is not the standard rural communities deserve.
Public healthcare investments and constituency projects should prioritize facilities like this. Access to healthcare is a basic right, not a privilege.
We call on @NPHCDAng, @Fmohnigeria, the Nasarawa State Government, and all relevant authorities to immediately facilitate the renovation, reconstruction, and proper furnishing of PHC Mandara.
Healthcare centres should not become hazards to the very people they are meant to protect.
The people of Mandara deserve dignity. They deserve safe treatment. They deserve better.
This neglect must end now. #FixOurPHCs

Dear Governor @HonBago
This is the dilapidated state of the Basic Health Center in Kwamba, Suleja, Niger State. The facility is in urgent need of government intervention as parts of the structure have developed deep cracks and risk collapsing at any moment. Patients and health workers are forced to use the center despite the dangers, as there are no alternatives nearby.
The situation is further worsened by the fact that the mini-grid solar light, which serves as the only reliable source of electricity in the clinic, has been vandalized. This leaves the facility in total darkness at night, making it unsafe for both patients and staff, especially during emergencies.
The roof of the health center leaks heavily whenever it rains, leaving the wards and consultation areas flooded. The ceilings are falling apart, exposing patients and workers to additional health hazards. These conditions make it almost impossible to provide quality healthcare services to residents of Kwamba and surrounding communities who depend on this center as their only option.
This reality stands in stark contrast to the claims by the Niger State Government. Recently, the government announced that 70% of the state’s budget has been allocated to education and health. Yet, communities like Kwamba are left with healthcare facilities that are not only inadequate but unsafe. If 70% of the budget is truly going into these critical sectors, why then do residents still lack access to quality health facilities?
Adding to the contradictions, the government also claimed to be constructing 20 Primary Health Centers across 20 Local Government Areas in the state. However, existing facilities like the one in Kwamba remain abandoned and deteriorating. It raises serious questions about government priorities, transparency, and accountability in project execution.
Healthcare is a fundamental right, and residents of Niger State deserve better. Allowing health centers to decay to this extent puts lives at risk and undermines trust in public institutions. Government at all levels must ensure that funds allocated to health are properly utilized, that existing health facilities are renovated, equipped, and staffed, and that promises made to the people translate into visible, tangible impact.
The people of Kwamba are calling on the Niger State Government to urgently step in and rehabilitate this Basic Health Center. Anything short of immediate action risks a tragedy that could have been prevented.

Dear Governor @HonBago,
This is the Primary Health Care Centre in Tayi community, Chanchaga LGA, Niger State. It is the only health facility serving thousands of residents, yet it is in a deplorable state. Patients come here with hope, but are met with broken beds, crumbling walls, and a lack of the most basic equipment.
Despite this reality, the Niger State government recently announced the construction of 20 new PHCs. While the idea of expanding access to healthcare is commendable, the painful truth is that over 70% of existing facilities in the state are in dire need of renovation.
Instead of prioritizing repairs and upgrades of these centers, resources are being channeled into new projects while the old ones collapse before our eyes.
The government also declared that 70% of the 2025 budget would be allocated to health. On paper, this is impressive. But on the ground, it has not translated into meaningful impact.
Communities like Tayi continue to rely on a dilapidated center where beds are torn, water is unavailable, electricity is unreliable, and medical staff are either overstretched or completely absent.
We are not saying the construction of new PHCs is a bad idea. But it would have been wiser and more impactful to first renovate, equip, and upgrade the existing ones to meet the basic standards of healthcare delivery.
A clear example can be seen in Kano State, where the government took a different approach by upgrading several PHCs into General Hospitals, ensuring quality services for their people without abandoning old facilities.
Niger State deserves the same level of commitment. Residents should not have to travel long distances or risk their lives because the only health facility in their community is unfit for use. What is happening in Tayi is not unique; it is a reflection of what many other communities in Niger face daily.
We are calling on Governor @HonBago and the Niger State government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector. Before embarking on new construction projects, focus should be placed on renovating existing PHCs, equipping them with functional beds, modern hospital equipment, clean water, stable electricity, and the medical professionals required to run them effectively.
Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. The people of Tayi, and indeed Niger State, deserve better.
