The #Flexnodes network primarily uses Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) technology and a global deployment strategy to accelerate blockchain communication. This process relies on the following technical steps:
Data Transformation into Equations: Block data is broken down into smaller chunks, and these chunks are encoded as mathematical equations. These equations can travel across the network much faster and more efficiently than raw block data.
Fast Forwarding: Flexnodes act as "fast forwarding points" on the network. Receiving block data through a gateway, a Flexnode breaks the data down into chunks, begins encoding, and immediately transmits the first equation to validators on the network as soon as it is generated.
Recoding Capability: Flexnodes not only transmit data but also continuously generate new equation variants using RLNC's recoding capability. This allows validators to reach the "equation threshold" required to completely decode the block much faster.
Reducing Latency (Bandwidth & Location):
Bandwidth: Flexnodes provide additional bandwidth to the system, increasing the number of equations sent per unit of time. Physical Location: Flexnodes spread across the globe reduce latency on the internet by shortening the physical distance the data has to travel.

Validators secure the network, Block Builders create blocks, and Relayers spread data. Flexnodes leverage RLNC to enable efficient, reliable, and scalable decentralized data propagation.

gmum !
#Flexnode refers to the computers that participate in the Optimum network, helping transmit and process blockchain data faster and more efficiently. Instead of letting data spread slowly and redundantly as in traditional systems, #Flexnodes optimize how information is shared between nodes across the network. As a result, the blockchain can operate more smoothly, reducing congestion and improving overall speed. In simple terms, if a blockchain is like a global computer, Optimum acts as its RAM, while Flexnodes are the machines providing that memory to the network. Because of this role, Flexnodes are considered an important piece in helping Web3 move toward a faster and more scalable infrastructure.

Just tried the #LatencyLords challenge by Optimum
Tested my reflexes and scored 751 points, currently sitting at #29 on the leaderboard. Not bad… but I know I can push it higher
This game is actually a cool way to visualize how fast data propagates across Ethereum using mump2p technology (~150ms speed). Fast reflexes = fast network.
I recorded my gameplay so you can see the run

Run by anyone. Powered by RLNC. No gatekeepers.
Faster data propagation isn't a nice-to-have it's what Web3 actually needs to scale.

Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) works differently.
Instead of sending the full message, the message is split into multiple parts.
Then each part is mathematically combined before being transmitted. @get_optimum

GMUM 😎
No smoke. No loud fanfare. Just upgrades happening beneath the surface.
#Flexnodes are part of what @get_optimum calls its decentralized memory and data propagation layer, the part of the stack that turns slow, redundant gossip into efficient, reliable, and recoverable data flows.
Here’s how it actually works:
• Flexnodes handle encoded gossip using RLNC
• They manage bounded coded buffers to absorb packet loss and smooth tail latency
• They serve decentralized memory requests through API interfaces for read/write access
• They interoperate with existing client and libp2p stacks to transition networks with minimal friction
What that means in practice is:
Fewer redundant resends, faster propagation, stronger validator sync, and smoother dApp performance across a range of chains
You don’t notice data propagation when it works ~ only when it fails. Optimum is working on the part networks usually ignore until it becomes a bottleneck.

Unlike regular nodes, #Flexnodes take part in how data is encoded, forwarded, and recovered across the network. Built on Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC), Flexnodes do more than share data outward, they transform it as it moves.
When network messages arrive, Flexnodes:
- combine and encode data fragments
- forward coded packets that maximize throughput
- help nodes reconstruct original messages even if some data is missing later
- all while reducing duplicate propagation.
This approach replaces noisy broadcast behavior with deliberate, efficient data flow.
Flexnodes will help blockchains move information faster and more reliably once launched.

People are refreshing like it’s a countdown…but what we’re truly waiting on isn’t just a validator, it’s a whole new data layer.
@get_optimum #Flexnodes are the backbone of a decentralized memory network built to improve how blockchains move and access data. They don’t just relay data, they encode, decode, and forward RLNC-coded gossip frames, making propagation faster and more reliable even under network loss and contention.
That means:
• Less redundant traffic
• Lower latency
• Smoother data access for dApps
• Better validator performance as gossip becomes efficient
The wait feels long because this is not a toy. It’s a real upgrade to blockchain memory and data flow. When Flexnodes go live, networks will gossip smarter, not noisier.

“Just increase block size” sounds simple, but that’s not what truly slows blockchains down.
The real problem? It’s how data moves across the network.
Every extra byte needs to be shared, verified, and resent, especially when packets drop or networks lag. Bigger blocks multiply that cost.
This often results in:
- Slower block propagation
- Missed slots
- Heavier validator workload
- More resends and wasted bandwidth
Optimum takes a smarter route — it focuses on efficient data movement.
Instead of forcing more data through the system, Optimum reduces the overhead: faster propagation, fewer resends, and smoother sync.
Blockchains don’t break because blocks are small, they struggle because data moves poorly.
Speed isn't just about size. It’s about smarter movement.
