#FloatplaneFriday The Spitfire floatplane was an experimental variant of the Supermarine Spitfire, a British single-seat fighter aircraft constructed during and after WWII.
The floatplane version was designed to operate from water, with the first conversion being a Mk I Spitfire fitted with floats from a Blackburn Roc. This conversion was not successful, and the project was shelved until the idea was revisited in 1942, leading to three Mk V Spitfires being converted.
These were intended for use in the Dodecanese Islands, but the campaign ended before they could be deployed. A single Mk IX Spitfire was also converted in 1943, but none of these floatplane Spitfires would see active service.
