As for the formula shortage, that was caused by cronobacter infections found at an Abbott plant in Michigan. Up to 80% mortality occurs in infants when they're infected with cronobacter and it’s not being reported. #FormulaRecall
The infant #FormulaRecall could have been prevented. The agency had reports of safety failures at the Abbott facility months before the plant's formula led to a child’s death. But the @US_FDA dragged their feet.

When @AbbottNews issued massive #FormulaRecall, we were told we could send back to them for reimbursement. No receipts needed.
They didn't tell us how much we would receive.

I would really love to hear what WIC offices are doing for this. There has always been a mechanism for making exceptions based on medical need or shortages, but this year magnitude of cases right now must be a huge struggle for administrators. #formularecall
