This is a brilliant read about being a #Trustee & what’s expected. This subject was chatted about at @valonline #futurefocus20 so I thought it quite apt 🙏💜

Today marks the end of 6 years as a trustee at the incomparable @SwitchboardLGBT – and I thought I’d thread together my thoughts for those considering taking up #charity trusteeship… THREAD
So that's a wrap on #FutureFocus20, our first ever digital conference which we think has been a success! Special thanks to @ReshmaVal and @JamesS_VAL for putting it all together and making sure everything ran smoothly over the three days! 👏👏👏
Really fantastic keynote from Kellie Charge from @Bodie_Hodges - inspiring, thought provoking and something to think about for everybody in the room! #FutureFocus20
"Talk to other people in the sector, because you'll find you're not alone. It's okay to not have all the answers, and it's okay to share your successes too.
We don't just provide services, we give hope." #FutureFocus20
"The pandemic has warmed the public to our sector. They are more aware of the services that we provide, but donations are in decline with the recession. We need to become storytellers. People only usually give when they ask - so ask. Be bold." #FutureFocus20
"It's important at times like this that we don't view other charities as competition. It's important that we share information and help one another." #FutureFocus20
"Consider how you can diversify your income. What skills might you need to work in other areas and how will you gain those skills?" #FutureFocus20
"The biggest learning that most organisations have drawn during the pandemic is that planning for significant loss [of funding] should already have been in place. As a sector we were not prepared. Organisations should constantly be reviewing fundraising plans." #FutureFocus20
"Diversify your thinking and ask service users for their input - be ready to adapt, you don't know what response you will get. Your services may not be meeting their needs. But don't ask the same people or you'll get the same answers." #FutureFocus20
"The one constant that we all face is change, so we're already always building resilience whether we realise it or not. Your colleagues are your greatest asset, from your board of trustees to your volunteers. Take time to learn about your team & what drives them." #FutureFocus20
"This year @Bodie_Hodges has secured multi-year funding from a local philanthropist. This didn't happen by accident - the services Bodie Hodges Foundation offers are unique, and the organisation already had a 3-5 year strategy." #FutureFocus20
"Since COVID, @Bodie_Hodges, like everybody else, have had to adapt quickly in terms of how we support our families... this means adapting to provide online learning sessions and running support groups in outside spaces free of charge [where regulations allow]." #FutureFocus20
We're just starting day 3 of #FutureFocus20, with our keynote speaker Kellie Charge, Fundraising and Events Manager for @Bodie_Hodges, who will be sharing her 20 years of experience in the #VCSE sector to help inform today's topic of 'Future Proofing'.

It was great to attend day two of the virtual @valonline #FutureFocus20 Conference this morning.
It was focused on how #COVID19 has seen the voluntary and community sector having to adapt much of its offering into the online space.
