More than 30 people were reportedly killed and dozens injured after armed men attacked public transport vehicles traveling between #Mankush and #Gilgel_Beles in #Guba Woreda, #Metekel Zone of #Ethiopia’s Benishangul-#Gumuz Region.
Five vehicles, including four public buses and one Isuzu truck, were also set ablaze during the attack.

#Somali President discusses #AUSSOM financing with regional leaders in Ethiopia
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in a high-level meeting in #Guba, Ethiopia, focused on financing the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
According to Villa Somalia the discussion emphasized the need for sustained support to the Somali National Army and AUSSOM in consolidating recent gains against international terrorism and in advancing regional peace and stability.
Also present at the meeting were President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of #Djibouti, President William Ruto of #Kenya, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of $Ethiopia, and the Chairperson of the #African Union Commission.
It was reported in February that funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) remains uncertain as delays in implementing a UN-AU cost-sharing mechanism raise concerns over financial sustainability.
AUSSOM, which replaced the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) on January 1, 2025 was expected to be financed under UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2719, which provides for 75% of costs to be covered by UN-assessed contributions and 25% by the AU. However, the resolution’s application has been deferred, leaving the mission without a clear financial framework.
