Here’s a detailed breakdown of how Indians can get permanent residency (PR) and citizenship in the countries you mentioned, plus why they’re generally more accessible than the U.S. for these pathways. #gcbacklog #h1b #greencardbacklog #eagleact #india #usa #h1b
Canada:
The Express Entry system is points-based and transparent, letting most skilled workers get PR in 6–12 months; citizenship is possible after three years of residency, and there are no per-country caps, making it one of the fastest and most reliable options for Indians.
Australia:
Skilled migration visas (like subclass 189/190) allow PR in about a year if you meet the points threshold; you can apply for citizenship after four years of residency, and recent agreements have made the process easier for Indians.
New Zealand:
You can get PR through the Skilled Migrant Category, and after five years of residency (with certain physical presence requirements), you’re eligible for citizenship, making it a straightforward process for skilled workers.
Portugal:
Indians can apply for PR after five years of legal residence (often via the Golden Visa or work permits), and citizenship is possible after another year, provided you meet language and integration requirements.
Bulgaria:
PR is available through investment, long-term residence, or marriage, and after five years of PR, you can apply for citizenship; the process is flexible, with multiple pathways tailored for different situations.
Poland:
You can get PR after several years of legal stay (typically 3–10 years, depending on your circumstances), and citizenship is possible after meeting residency, income, and accommodation requirements—marriage to a Polish citizen can shorten the timeline.
Estonia:
PR requires at least eight years of residency, with five years of actual presence; citizenship follows after passing language and civics tests, and the process is clear for those who qualify.
Summary Table
Country PR Timeline (approx.) Citizenship Timeline (approx.) Key Advantages for Indians
Canada 6–12 months 3 years after PR Transparent, fast, no per-country caps
Australia ~1 year 4 years after PR Points-based, English-speaking, easier for skilled workers
New Zealand 2–3 years 5 years residency Family-friendly, clear requirements
Portugal 5 years residency 1 year after PR Golden Visa, investment options, language requirement
Bulgaria 5 years (varies) 5 years after PR Multiple pathways, flexible for investors
Poland 3–10 years After PR, varies Shorter for spouses, clear income/housing rules
Estonia 8 years residency After PR, language/civics test Straightforward for those who qualify
Why these are better than the U.S.:
The U.S. has strict per-country caps and a massive backlog for Indians (sometimes decades-long), while these countries offer clearer, faster, and more predictable routes to PR and citizenship for skilled workers and investors.
Places like Singapore, UAE, and the Gulf states are great for jobs and lifestyle, but PR and citizenship are extremely limited or not available to most expats—so they’re best for temporary or medium-term stays, not permanent settlement.
Let me know if you want more details on any specific country’s process!
@immigrationgirl Entire mainstream media knows about this Employment bases #Gcbacklog. Never took a minute to highlight the issue since the left decided long ago that Country caps even in Employment Based Immigration should continue to acheive diversity/Equity. John oliver is an exception.
#H1B #GcBacklog folks
Take this as a big Positive. Do NOT trust fake news, AiLA monsters and their allies.
This Bill is rumored to include Min Wage for H1B, Prioretization on merit while BIG chance of shifting ALL or PART of either wasted EB visas or new Diversity Visas to EB.
Would @elonmusk @realDonaldTrump torch 7% birth origin caps in Skilled Green cards and push it towards 'full merit, America First' in 2025?
Why are we even wasting time when @GOP @MikeLeeforUtah has already shown us unanimous consent on this in Dec 2020?
#Merit #GCBacklog
@Cloudwatch199 55k without removing #PerContryCap is not going to do anything for the backlog, even 500k with per country caps is 35k, against standing 1.2 million already in #gcbacklog as of 2023. Need to clear in one sweep and put in new system in place with FCFS. https://t.co/JmbgYpemXo
@anil_am22 India must stop this on its soil. This will bring US to the table and provide a respectable way of living for indians in USA. It’s a shame that indians face this kind of hardship and backlog despite living in US for 10-15 + years #GCBacklog
Please don’t forget pastors committed to MAGA but have been punished under President Bidens unfair treatment of R1➡️EB4 GC

It’s so encouraging to hear the language around supporting religious freedom!
However, please remember the many pastors on religious visas, who under President Biden were very unfairly treated with the R1 visa ➡️ EB4 GC reallocations.
I love America as a Brit. As a former soldier we partnered with American soldiers as brothers in arms, training together in Bragg and fighting together in Iraq. I’m now a baptist pastor and have served the American military communities in London and now as a pastor, living in the USA where I minister to many military personnel. I’d love to stay, I love the USA, we were thrilled President Trump was elected and want to, like so many other R1 pastors with different stories, carry on serving our communities here in the USA. It’s very deflating to see many with no love for the USA just come in illegally, abuse the system and be rewarded. Whilst others suffer with the terrible R1 ➡️ EB4 changes (that were not pro-religion) under President Biden.
I’m very glad that’s changing now, it’s necessary and right, but I do hope those that sincerely want to come, like me stay and contribute to society won’t be punished!
IN GOD WE TRUST!

Spent the morning asking senators about #gcbacklog relief, as promised.
Still gotta couple more to find. Story coming to @MigrantInsider
@wadhwa Yup. Stop keeping “legal talent” on a lifelong temporary status. Most of the folks wud have been permanent resident if #GCbacklog and #countrycap issue was addressed . H1B is max 6 years but they are keeping us slave for lifetime.
@ShadesOfBlueAn1 @CurrentRevolt This destortion of the stats, highlights the need of #gcbacklog resolution, so that people who are already living in USA for decades with #ApprovedGreencardPetition come out of temporary visa status. May it be through #PerContryCap removal or any other way congress comes up.
@Cloudwatch199 When none of the countries in the world face green card backlog, why is that Indian #H1bs alone are facing #GCBacklog ??
Do a root cause analysis?
FIIDSUSA thanks @realDonaldTrump & @elonmusk for supporting #H1B which brings in talented skilled tech professionals making #USA leader in #innovation #entreprenurship & #technology We request to eliminate #GCBacklog too

@connectamitb @prems_tweet Bro, she was the Policy maker in Biden's Govt...She was the person who was responsible for Not lifting a finger for #GCbacklog Indians when she could have done. She is such a disgrace!!
@anujchristian H1B and #GCBacklog are two different things. Anti American will drag the #GCBacklog discussion to how cheap H1B is. Solving #GCbacklog will address their H1B concerns but they don’t want to fix it.
@DcWalaDesi She has no moral right to speak now , she blocked all reforms to end #gcbacklog ! Crocodile tears!
