Experts propose an original approach and definition of #AGI: a Venn diagram shows the AGI concept as the intersection of three properties: #Autonomy (A), #Generality (G), and #Intelligence (I).
Instead of trying to make AGI safe, the approach is to avoid creating AGI in the first place by deliberately limiting one of the three components... Interesting, do you agree?
With the example reported in the document:
- AlphaFold: High intelligence in protein folding, but lacks autonomy and generality -> easy to control
- Robotic lawn mower: High autonomy but lacks generality and intelligence -> easy to control
- Hypothetical self-driving car: High autonomy and intelligence but low generality -> negligible loss-of-control risk
But systems with all three (A+G+I) are difficult to align or control but looking at this framework:
- Minimally-agentic systems (avoiding "A")
- De-generalised systems (avoiding "G")
- Intelligence-bounded systems (avoiding "I")
