The simplistic thinking "GDF15 increases with disease, so neutralizing it should be good" led to a monoclonal antibody therapy to neutralize circulating GDF15.
The results in clinical trials indicate trends towards elevated mortality in people with cancer cachexia, and now increased rates of heart failure. The latest trial was stopped early because of poor outcomes.
