Top Tweets for #Genocide1920
Accidentally clicked on a Grok prompt and spent a couple of minutes there. It looked at my previous tweet and explained it with near-perfect accuracy. It then offered to provide context on Georgia's #Genocide1920 and did so well enough.

Flag of the genocidal Georgian Democratic Republic, an infamous symbol of evil that has not been erased since
In 1920, the GDR conducted a complete destruction of South Ossetia, murdering about 5 thousand Ossetians and expelling dozens of thousands

In Batumi, protesters brought his cloak to the protest yesterday.
Zurab, originally from Abkhazia, wore Georgia's First Republic flag over his shoulders every evening for nearly a year while joining the protests.

The national flag flies at half-mast across South Ossetia today: June 20 is when we remember the victims of #Genocide1920, Georgia's campaign of slaughter in response to South Ossetia's self-determination movement. The atrocity left 5 thousand dead and up to 50 thousand expelled.
@ThatchEffendi Ah, they were also deported by pre-Soviet decrees of the Georgian Democratic republic – after the #Genocide1920, it began deporting whoever was left in South Ossetia.
I am a South Ossetian who was born in North Ossetia. Not because anyone in my family made that specific choice.

@lesboblancas @sopjap You must be new here. Check out #Genocide1920, #EredTragedy, #ZarTragedy, #GeorgianCrimes, #GeorgianAggression.
Sadly, as an Ossetian, #GeorgianAggression and #GeorgianCrimes, including #Genocide1920 when Georgia murdered 5 thousand Ossetians, #ZarTragedy (pic below) and #EredTragedy where GE militants and army soldiers committed acts of genocide against Ossetian civilians, and so on.

What comes to mind when you think of Georgia?

@sheintsukimi Honestly, I can't name good English-language sources off the top of my head. They are quite scarce. For general info, see the hashtag #Genocide1920, we've posted some stuff about it here on Twitter.

#Genocide1920
The monument to the settlers - founders of Nogir has become for many in Ossetia an unofficial memorial to the victims of the genocide of 1920. In many ways it is a celebration of life, despite the terrible events of 1920 - many South Ossetians were able to escape to the North.
Each June 20, Ossetia remembers the victims of #Genocide1920, when the "Georgian Democratic Republic" slaughtered five thousands of us and expelled up to fifty thousand. One of the darkest days of our history, one of the most vivid examples of what Georgia has been and is to us.

@Mikiashvili_M Yeah, it also murdered five thousand Ossetians, expelled up to fifty thousand and was working on expelling more. Thankfully, it was destroyed before that could happen

I will praise the fact that #Genocide1920 is referenced in the paper. It is indeed one of the key events that shape our political orientation and probably the single largest massacre perpetrated against us since the 13th century's fall of Alania.
The empirical evidence is conclusive. In the two times when no overarching power could restrain it, Georgia went on a murderous rampage: the GDR's cruelty in Abkhazia and #Genocide1920 in Ossetia, post-Soviet Georgia's violent expulsion of most of its Ossetian population.
One of the most important works of Ruslan Bzarov, the modern Ossetian historian, is the collection of the documents on the #Genocide1920 conducted by Georgia. Having worked in the archives, he expressed confidence that they have been tempered with to erase evidence of that crime.
@justreadin34446 In patricular, not much has been written about #Genocide1920 in English. Here's a small thread with the basic facts. You can see other stuff under that hashtag for more details.

Today, the Ossetian nation remembers the most devastating, cruel, unforgivable crime of all that Georgia has committed – the genocide of 1920 which took the lives of 5 thousand people and displaced anywhere between 20 and 50 thousand at the least. Dzænæty badut.
#Genocide1920

Notably, the brief post-1917 period where Georgia was completely independent is the period where it was most unabashedly violent, being unrestrained by any overarching power. That is when the crime of #Genocide1920 was committed, unparalleled by previous or subsequent events.

Us being under GE rule in the first place was only achieved through extreme violence after #Genocide1920.
