Apparently, neither the Goa govt archeological dept nor @ASIGoI are interested in doing anything to preserve the sanctity of this monument. @ASIGoI spends crores of rupees to maintain Old Goa churches, but this pillar, which is also in Old Goa, is left for the drunkards and the drug addicts! How many of us are aware of this chapter in Maratha history, when Chimajiappa, brother of Bajirao 1, defeated the Portuguese to capture Vasai Fort in 1739 ?
The Marathas then removed 6 church bells from the churches in Bassein (Vasai) Fort, which were then carried off on elephant backs as victory souvenirs by the Maratha sardars to their home towns at various places in Maharashtra
One of the Church bells is at Naroshankar temple in Nashik is called “Naroshankarachi Ghanta”.
It is 2.5-ft high and 10.25ft in circumference
