In a remarkable turn of events, the @BCGreens have negotiated away any form of relevance in the forthcoming legislative session. It looks like an unelected leader with no negotiating skill has hamstrung two naive rookie MLAs with no legislative experience when they had no need to do so. #bcpoli
The Lieutenant Governor had already given the @BCNDP the nod to form government. This was not the case in 2017 when the BC Liberals had more seats than the @BCNDP. @jjhorgan needed the support of the @BCgreens and so we negotiated the Confidence and Supply Agreement.
While some have claimed we didn't gain much in our negotiations, the truth is we achieved almost all of our objectives in that agreement (despite the present @BCGreens leader who undermined negotiations at the time - I've posted on this before). In fact, the @BCNDP economic agenda from 2017-2020 (grounded in innovation) was the economic plan former Deputy Leader Matt Toner (innovation and tech entrepreneur) and I crafted after more than 18 months of me travelling the province meeting with tech and resource sector leaders. Of course, there was lots of give and take but @jjhorgan, @carolejames and I were able to listen respectively to each others' views and come to consensus on any disagreements.
The 2020 election happened because the @BCNDP could no longer work with the present leader of the @BCGreens. She and @AdamPOlsen kiboshed two important bills that the NDP tried to advance in the summer of 2020 (I was sitting as an independent at the time and supported these bills...I've written about this before). The NDP couldn't work with either of them after I left and now that both of them are longer there, the NDP have ensured the BC Greens are irrelevant. This is a coup for the NDP that could have been avoided.
In 2020, the present leader of the @BCGreens violated the Confidence and Supply Agreement by blindsiding the BC NDP with a sub amendment to a bill on the floor of the legislature (in direct contravention of the good faith and no surprises clause we had agreed to). Had the NDP not accepted the sub amendment, government would have fallen in non confidence as it was a budgetary bill. They could no longer continue working with the new BC Green leader. @CaroleJames can validate my claim here. The NDP had no choice but to seek a new mandate to govern through the COVID crisis.
And so, what does one make of the present agreement? It is very telling that the Premier makes no comment and instead the BC NDP only offered up the Deputy Leader to speak to the agreement released on a Friday! The NDP just checkmated the BC Greens and ensured they will have no voice.
The present agreement has nothing of substance on climate. @JValeriote74 won his riding over his rightfully strong objection to the Woodfibre LNG project. There is no mention of LNG or the Oil/Gas sector in the agreement. The inconsequential bits about heat pumps and reviewing CleanBC were going to happen anyway. There is nothing about meeting our GHG targets; there is nothing about innovation; there is no economic plan; there is nothing of substance on resource development.
This agreement is an embarrassment for the BC Greens. IMHO, their Leader should immediately resign and the party needs to do some internal soul searching. I am no longer convinced they have a role to play in BC politics.
Like so many British Columbians, I look for an authentic centrist party to vote for. Will one emerge in BC in the next year? The @BCGreens have shown they are irrelevant; the @BCNDP under @Dave_Eby's leadership have shown they are out of touch; the @Conservative_BC still have to convince British Columbians that they can reign in their radical elements.
While I know I will get attacked for this post, my hope is BC can return to the 2017-2020 era when @jjhorgan, @carolejames and I put our differences aside and did what we could to work authentically for the collective, as opposed tour own interests.

I think one of the best provincial governments in my time was the #GreenDP. Hopefully we will see something similar. #BCelection2024
Anyone who thinks the #NDP could have easily gotten more compromises is underestimating just how little the #Liberals actually want to deliver on their promises.
We need a #GreeNDP #ProgressiveAlliance to give people leverage over #Trudeau.
#LiberalNDPdeal #NDPLiberalCoalition
Here's what happened yesterday: one leader without a hope of getting re-elected agreed with another leader without a hope of getting re-elected, that they should get together and make sure there's no election so they can both keep their jobs. #LiberalNDPdeal
@Ashleyzarbatany There are no trees, birds, fish, jobs, futures, ideals or political parties on a dead planet. Time's up. The only way to hold on to some semblance of life as we know it on this earth is to band together #greeNDP @BCYND @YoungBCGreens @GPUSyouth #Unity https://t.co/SyvF6Kzkdu
Some recent blog posts on Environmentally Sustainable digital preservation. Perhaps @WilliamKilbride we should create a longer life hashtag: #GreenDP? #GreenDigiPres? #ecoDP? #ESDP will get lost in acronymitis..

@SoniaFurstenau @GayleDuteil @bcndp This is very true. But, to quote the Joker in Batman, when you decide to "dance with the devil in the pale moonlight" you know it's gonna end badly one day. #GreeNDP 👍😀

Analysis: @kennedystewart, @inner_cityfarms, @GeorgeHeyman, @BillTieleman and others in the #GreeNDP sphere have blood on their hands. The rush to kill Stanley Park coyotes in time for a real estate tycoon's party. #vanpoli #bcpoli #cdnpoli #vanRE

The rightward shift and subsequent collapse of the #GPC sucks but does not change that a #ClimateAlliance would win more leverage for the left and potentially keep #Turdeau out of accountable #FalseMajority. Even if the parties dont cooperate voters should #GreeNDP themselves
This is why we must put partisanship aside as #Canada's progressive majority and push the #Greens & #NDP for a #ClimateAlliance to fight the #ClimateCrisis. #GreenNewDeal #TaxPolluters #RefugeesWelcome
We can win together or lose everything pretending to be separate #LeftUnity
Remember the #GreeNDP accord that brought an end to the @bcliberals dynasty on this day in 2017? It contained specific language about a 2021 election. @DemocracyWatchr filed a court petition over the @bcndp breaking the deal and calling a snap pandemic election in 2020. #bcpoli

Four years ago tonight, #GreeNDP toppled @BCLiberalCaucus. But @bcndp should hang their heads in shame: ex-health minister @TerryLake19 did a better job of warning British Columbians about the #HeatDome before the weekend than the current health minister, @adriandix. #bcpoli
As a leftist in Canada I will generally find that the #NDP and #GPC are not sufficiently pro-environment or pro-labour for my ideals.
In ridings where the #GreeNDP have no chance I vote #communist bc it is pragmatic to signal that there are more votes to be had on the far left.
When even #Biden is better on #ClimateCrisis than #Trudeau then we need to get serious with a #ClimateAlliance of the #GreeNDP. #NDP #Green #Communist and any other party forward-looking!
Build solidarity on the left! Win more ridings through cooperation! Pressure the Lib-Cons
#IStandWithMeryam Anyone who looks at my post history will notice that I've been on Twitter for years and nearly half of my posts are from today about @MeryamHd2020 being undemocratically removed from the race for the Greens. #GreeNDP is the future of progress in Canada!
There’s a better way! @Wilkinson4BC outlines the @bcliberals plan to provide Opportunity for All of BC, not the failures of the current #GreeNDP government! @CBCVancouver @GlobalBC @CTVVancouver @theprovince
