There is divergence between high res dynamical models and global/statistical model forecasts for #TropicalStormJerry even at short forecast lengths. #HAFS #HWRF #HMON all showing rapid intensification and a more southward track for #Jerry while SHIPS is weaker + #GFS more north.

12Z late models are not aligned with the early forecasts and represent the worst near term (under 48 hrs) forecast solutions I have ever seen for #TampaBay. #HWRF #HMON #HAFS all have major hurricane #Milton affecting #Tampa with its SE quadrant and bringing peak surge. #FLwx

At 11 am, @NHC_Atlantic reports #Milton is a 150 mph cat 4 #hurricane. Wind shear + dry air make re-intensification quite a challenge and 12z early models are showing weakening moving forward. Current consensus is a cat 2-3 #Milton to make landfall near #Sarasota early Thursday.

These 4-5 day 12Z forecasts from the regional dynamical models (#HWRF #HMON #HAFS) for #TD14/#Milton are very alarming for #TampaBay #StPete FL. The only good news is they are long range forecasts- the track and intensity forecasts could change- hopefully revised downwards.

I would put these 12z regional dynamical models’ 36 hour forecasts (#HAFS #HMON #HWRF) in the category of very disturbing but plausible. I wrote about the conduciveness of the Tuesday to early Thursday environment for #Helene a couple days ago and it’s unfortunately coming true.

At 48 hrs, #HWRF and #HMON forecasts significantly stronger than #HAFS - intensity uncertainty continues to increase for #Helene … ceiling and floor seems lower today for landfall but a lot can change and we won’t know much more until it crosses pass Yucatán Peninsula…

Following 12z #GFS forecast signal for a weaker #Helene, #HAFS models have followed suit but #HMON remains stronger. Definitely highlighting the challenge of pre genesis intensity forecasts. All these models were a lot more bullish yesterday before storm asymmetries increased.

12z regional dynamical models’ 72 hour forecasts show anything from a cat 3 (#HWRF) to a cat 4 (#HMON) to a cat 5 (#HAFS). Again, thermodynamically speaking, #PTC9 / #Helene has everything it could ever need to get to a cat 5 before a #Florida landfall. #FLwx

The center of #AL97 remains cloudless but there’s plenty of convection. Over night, the intensity forecasts continued to trend upward + tracks are trending eastward. A #Florida cat 3-4 Thursday evening landfall is the smart bet for now with high uncertainty until #Helene genesis.

Strong CAT 2, maybe even pressing a CAT 3. #NHC is still holding at 100mph winds for the peak intensity. This morning #PTC6 has begun to organize in the Bay of Campeche and it will be likely named #TropicalStormFrancine before the end of the day. The conditions are ripe for intensification over the next 24 hours before shear and dry air become an issue. > Cat 2 at landfall possible.
