A5: I had a student who wasn't doing well on exams. This student got a 95 on a test after meeting with me to go over materials and studying. I called home to let mom know how well the student did and it was a great interaction! #HSWEdChat
A5: After my students passed their Regents exams in January. I spoke with several parents then about how well their child did and more so to speak with them about having their child stay in AIS to continue their success in current classes and for the June Regents. #HSWEdChat

A2: I find that the best way to communicate with parents is always through a phone call, however using some email correspondence prior to have open communication with the parent prior to calling home or setting up a phone call. #HSWEdChat
A5 - The last positive call was March 9th. I know because I checked my communication log. I called simply to rave about a student. I told the parent how impressed I am with the quality of work of her child and how respectful her child is as well. #hswedchat
Q5: When was the last time you made a positive parent communication? What was the positive comment that you shared?

A4 - @ccgunsel brings up such a great point. People are more quick to respond negatively in writing- as he said, it’s easy to hide behind social media. The phone call elicits much more of a human connection. #hswedchat
A3 - Email cannot always accurately portray the intended tone and can indeed be misconstrued. #hswedchat
@weknowteaching #HSWEdChat Q4 absolutely. Sometimes you need to pick up the phone and have a conversation better yet in person. Pick up on nonverbals
A4 Absolutely! Phone calls should be the way to speak to parents when discussing sensitive topics. You want to make sure the appropriate adult knows the information and understands what’s going on. Plus you can try to figure things out together right during the call! #HSWEdChat
@weknowteaching We have all received email messages and in the wording misunderstood what it really wanted to convey. So much better to have a conversation.#HSWEdChat
A3; Totally agree with Nicole here! Access to internet differs which each family! Even using Google Classroom or sharing student work digitally can be a challenge #HSWEdChat https://t.co/T35gNHVs8x
A3. One challenge we face with email is that not all parents have access or check their email on a regular basis #HSWEdChat
A3 I use email for brief and general updates but any discussion that I need to have with a parent I certainly use the phone to avoid any miscommunication! #HSWEdChat
@weknowteaching #hswedchat Email is a quick way to SEND information. E-mail has shortcomings. For example: E-mail makes it easy for people to sidestep issues they’d prefer to avoid. Some people just can’t write, and even good writers can be lazy, which results in messages that are ambiguous.

A2: I would say a phone call. Being able to actually speak with a parent can get a message across much more directly than an email. It's nice to hear from them too instead of waiting on an email #HSWEdChat
A2. I find the best way to connect with a Parent is by phone. Better chance for the parent to understand info and ask questions #HSWEdChat
#HSWEdChat A2: I like to use phone and e-mail contact in combination for the best outreach and outcome.
@KimberlyCorbo1 Great point. You have to know your parents and how they will respond to the message you’re delivering. #hswedchat
