Police detained at least six people, according to Interior Minister Vicente Romero. The Peruvian right-wing congress is facing a historically low approval rate of just 6%, while unelected leader Dina Boluarte is opposed by 86%, according to the latest CPI poll. Meanwhile, Boluarte called the "Taking of Lima" protests a "threat to democracy." Faced with the new protests, the government declared a state of emergency in parts of the south, which had previously been the epicenter of the Indigenous-led anti-coup uprising. The arrest of democratically elected leftist President Pedro Castillo last December at the right-wing congress's behest sparked nationwide protests. The protesters' demands include the release of the imprisoned Castillo, the removal of Boluarte, a new constitution, and accountability for the over 60 deaths during the uprisings. #TomaDeLima
