The Texas House just passed HB 8 a betrayal of parents, teachers, and children. Rep. Brad Buckley and Sen. Paul Bettencourt authored it. Gov. Greg Abbott will sign it. Mike Morath will control it.
They’ve locked Texas kids into a failed Common Core aligned College and Career system, wrapped in the lie of “TEKS alignment.” Adaptive tests will now track and reshape children’s beliefs and behaviors under SEL mandates.
This is not education. It is control. And we will never forget who sold out Texas children.

The deception from Chairman Brad Buckley is disgraceful. He wants Texans to believe #HB8 assessments are aligned to the Texas TEKS, not the federal Common Core. That is a flat-out lie. The TEKS were rewritten to match the federal College and Career Readiness standards under ESSA.
What Buckley won’t say is that teachers will be forced to make “adjustments” based on the data collected through adaptive assessments aligned to behavioral standards mandated by Texas law SB 223 (SEL). This isn’t about academics. It’s about tracking, measuring, and reshaping children’s values and beliefs under the guise of “accountability.”
Buckley is selling parents a false choice while locking our kids into the same failed Common Core system that destroys real education and feeds the data machine.

#HB8 is the nail in the coffin for our children’s education in Texas. The sheer deception coming out of Chairman Brad Buckley’s mouth is appalling. Chairman Brad Buckley and every Republican and Democrat who votes for this will own the harm. They will own a failed system that tracks and labels kids instead of teaching them, that crushes freedom instead of building knowledge. As a Conservative Republican mom, this enrages me — and it should outrage EVERY parent, regardless of political party. Our children are not government property.
The question every Texan must ask is this:
Do you trust the Texas Education Agency with absolute power over your child’s future?
With HB8, the Texas House and Senate have handed Abbott’s hand-picked Commissioner, Mike Morath, sweeping control over the very foundations of education. If signed into law, TEA will not just oversee schools — it will own them.
•TEA controls the SBOE who writes the standards.
•TEA will design and control the assessments
•TEA will own and sell the curriculum.
•TEA will grade the results.
That’s not accountability. That’s a total power grab. It’s central planning at its worst, and Texas families and children will pay the price. HB8 is the death of local control, parental authority, academic freedom and our children’s individual liberty.

Attention #rural superintendents: The Senate amendment to #HB8 has removed the growth provision that would have give schools credit in A–F ratings for year-to-year student progress. It was replaced with a study only. That means districts will not see growth counted in their accountability ratings.
