1. Regrettably, the UN SG’s Statement to the UN #SecurityCouncil hany #HeadOfTheState who is abducted in middle of the night, given that Venezuela had not posed any threat to the US.
2. The UN Statement also disregards the treatment meted at a woman. In what capacity is that not to be considered as VAW. There is ample documented evidence how women are held as prisoners and abused in detention.
Regrettable that UNSG did not order immediate and unconditional release of the detainees and provided for independent UN Observers for safety and return of the First Lady of Venezuela.
3. Weak or fragile democracies determination is not prerogative of the West. UN Statement refers to an independent FFM and uses its contents conveniently. The precedent of use of UN FFM followed by forceful action/invasion of the West State sends a strong message to the countries of #GlobalSouth on indirect role of UN in facilitating these actions.
It is regrettable that FFM are becoming convenient tools for actions.
4. UN insists on self determination and stays silent when the Western country imposes the will on the people of Venezuela. Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Venezuela, where has the FFM followed by action of the US led coalition has resulted in good for the people of the country subjected to destruction and violence.
5. The world has universally condemned the abuse of international norms in Venezuela. Regrettably, the UN SG’s statement offers no remediation, safeguards against the American Foreign Policy abuses disregarding any and every country’s sovereignty and integrity,,
In situations as confused & complex as the one we now face in Venezuela, it's important to stick to principles:
Respect for the @UN Charter.
Respect for the sovereignty, political independence & territorial integrity of states.
The prohibition of the threat or use of force.
The power of the law must prevail.
International law contains tools to address issues such as illicit traffic in narcotics, disputes about resources & human rights concerns.
This is the route we need to take.
