El mítico #JohnWayne y una guapa y atractiva #KatharineRoss, en su mejor momento cinematográfico, #LosLuchadoresDelInfierno (#Hellfighters, 1968), de #AndrewVMcLaglen. Se cumplen 56 años del estreno de esta película entretenida e interesante donde el Duque interpreta a Chance Buckman, quien dirige un prestigioso equipo internacional especializado en la extinción de incendios en pozos petrolíferos. Su peligrosa profesión está poniendo peligro su matrimonio con Madelyn (#VeraMiles). Su ayudante Greg (#JimHutton) se enamora de su hija Tish (#KatharineRoss), que comparte los temores de su madre respecto a un trabajo tan arriesgado. La película, sin ser una obra maestra, puede verse como un precedente de otras cintas parecidas, en especial #Armagedon, que es, técnicamente, la misma historia. También tiene una cierta relación con #Hatari (1962), de #HowardHawks, John Wayne en el papel de un hombre aglutinado de esfuerzos para llevar a cabo una misión bastate peligrosa, aunque le aporte grandes rendimientos económicos. Otro trabajo del Duque interpretando el papel de jefe de un grupo de hombres que se ganan la vida realizando un trabajo peligroso, en esta ocasión, extinguir incendios en pozos petrolíferos. La mayor virtud del filme es que ahonda en la peligrosidad de este particular modo de vida y en las repercusiones personales, particularmente en lo tocante a las relaciones conyugales de los protagonistas. Aunque sigo pensando que lo mejor de «Los luchadores del infierno» son las secuencias de los incendios en las torres petrolíferas, que tienen un gran realismo.
