Now @JECumby and @Jason_W_Dean are running a quarterly 'After Hours' programme e.g. https://t.co/fjvggbdckC Collections-focused, they model an ideal working relationship between academics and librarians with their complementary domains of expertise #HistLib21
The library team compared and constrasted the audiences for the two programmes. The first had a more international audience, the second more local. For the third, they aimed at drawing in a similar bibliophilic audience that tuned into the first #HistLib21

Working in lockdown, the speakers could only work with pre-existing images, but it turned out that the loose structure of the talks meant that drawing on e.g.snaps of interesting things caught on a librarian's mobile phone led to some interesting conversations #HistLib21

At the beginning of 2020, the library's strategy for programming was to engage more with local audiences in Kansas City. Due to the pandemic they had to pivot to providing online programming, but actually increased their audience nationally and internationally #HistLib21
Now @JECumby of @LindaHall_org draws on her experiences of running online events. Although Zoom fatigue has set in for some since the height of the pandemic, online events continue to be a successful and positive activity at the Linda Hall Library #HistLib21
@tombilson ends by talking about digital materiality. The project manifesto includes pledges to photograph rather than scan (to avoid flatness), to never crop or retouch, to give the provenance of metadata, and many other ways of honouring the materiality of objects #HistLib21
I was really interested in the Courtauld's emphasis on capturing the materiality of the images, through context, showing edges, crop marks etc. Volunteers appreciated discussing the fragility and specificity of physical collections even while digitising them.

Big shout out to https://t.co/BY2tfdKFhP as a software to wrangle large numbers of volunteers on a shift-based project at #HistLib21 - I don't know it, apparently free for small numbers about £200pa for a big project.
The Courtauld exceeded the funder's targets for diversity in their recruitment of volunteers. Work placements and corporate volunteers are included as well. One third of volunteers had never heard of the Courtauld before they joined the project #HistLib21
Superb talk by @tombilson on digitising architectural photographs at the Courtauld. 'Our manifesto: Honour physical form and integrity' including mounts/folders/context. Otherwise a searcher might think Google had created the digital images afresh! #HistLib21
The Conway Library is a collection of 1 million images of World Architecture and Sculpture. Part-funded by the Nation Lottery Heritage Fund, the aim of the project is to make the images available to everyone, and do this entirely with volunteers.
