Cette décision constitue un désaveu majeur des autorités rwandaises et une reconnaissance internationale des violations de ses droits fondamentaux.
🚨 Arrêtée le 19 juin 2025 à son domicile de #Kigali, quelques heures après avoir témoigné dans le procès de membres de son parti #DALFA_Umurinzi, Victoire Ingabire demeure détenue depuis plus d'un an sans qu'une date de procès n'ait été fixée. Les autorités rwandaises requièrent une peine de prison à vie sur la base d'accusations que les organisations de défense des droits humains qualifient de politiquement motivées et fabriquées afin de réduire au silence l'une des principales voix de l'opposition démocratique.
📌🔊 Le Groupe de travail de l'#ONU demande sa libération immédiate, l'octroi d'une indemnisation et d'autres réparations, ainsi que l'ouverture d'une enquête indépendante afin d'établir les responsabilités des personnes impliquées dans cette détention arbitraire. Statement from the #HRF
The Human Rights Forum (HRF) is following with deep concern the evolving situation of civil liberties in the DR CONGO, particularly in #Kinshasa , from the announcement of the "Ghost Town" day on June 3, 2026, to the repression of the sit-in organized on June 12, 2026, in front of the People's Palace.
This period cannot be understood as a succession of isolated events. It constitutes a coherent political and civic sequence, marked by the contestation of the proposed constitutional amendment, the rise in tensions between the authorities and the opposition, the intimidation of numerous activists and human rights defenders, the surveillance of political actors and citizens, and then the violent repression of the June 12 sit-in. The #FDH reiterates that the freedom of peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, freedom of association, and the right to participate in public life are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Congo and by the international human rights instruments to which our country is a party. These rights may only be restricted in strict compliance with the principles of legality, necessity, proportionality, and non-discrimination.
With the demonstration announced by the C64 movement for July 8, 2026, approaching, the FDH considers it essential to learn from the events of June 3-12, to establish responsibility, to protect the victims, and to ensure that future mobilizations are conducted in strict compliance with fundamental rights.
BEFORE THE JUNE 3 GOOD TOWN DAY: A CLIMATE OF INTIMIDATION AND SURVEILLANCE
The June 3, 2026, "Good Town Day" was announced by the C64 movement and other social and political forces as a peaceful action intended to express opposition to any initiative aimed at amending the Constitution or paving the way for a change in the constitutional order.
From the moment this activity was announced, the political climate in Kinshasa became tense. Calls for mobilization were perceived by some actors close to the government as a political threat, while the authorities and leaders of the ruling party called on the population to go about their business as usual.
According to information and testimonies gathered by the FDH (Human Rights Front), several activists, human rights defenders, and citizens who relayed the call for the good town day began to be subjected to threats, pressure, and surveillance. Among those reported as being at risk were Gauthier Ilunga Kasongo,
coordinator of the Biso Peuple movement, Jacques Issongo of LUCHA, Rebecca Tshongo Vikyo, member
of the FDH and in charge of advocacy, monitoring, documentation, and human rights reporting, William Bandoma,
Executif Director and Senior Researcher of the FDH, as well as several political actors involved in the mobilization.
These threats and acts of intimidation were not isolated. They were part of a broader context of political tension
around the constitutional issue, marked by dissuasive rhetoric and competing calls for
