The #Hurrians
The Hurrians (Hurrians / Hurrites) were an ancient people who inhabited a broad geographical area in the ancient Near East, encompassing northern Mesopotamia, northern Syria, and eastern Anatolia, as well as parts of northwestern Iran and the southern Caucasus. This wide distribution positioned them as an influential component in the cultural and linguistic interactions that characterized these regions during the third and second millennia BCE.
Hurrian civilization is closely associated with the Kura–Araxes culture, an archaeological horizon that spread across the Caucasus, eastern Anatolia, and the northern Fertile Crescent. Some recent studies in population genetics suggest that this cultural complex may coincide with the emergence of early branches of the paternal haplogroup J1, although this connection remains a subject of ongoing scholarly debate.
Over time, the Hurrians were gradually absorbed into later cultural and political entities, particularly Afroasiatic-speaking Semitic societies. This process of integration was accompanied by linguistic, cultural, and genetic transformations, including a probable increase in the presence of the E-M35 haplogroup in certain regions that had previously fallen within the Hurrian sphere.

That’s right - although Urartian is considered a sister language to Hurrian, it appears that Urartian did not evolve from Hurrian. When linguists analyzed both languages, they found that archaic Hurrian resembled Urartian more than the later evolved versions. How the Iron Age ancestors of the Armenians spoke an older form of a Bronze Age language remains another mystery.
