📢 Deadline extended! You now have until 1 September to submit your proposal for the #ICILS IEA Research for Education call.
📣 New from the IEA Research for Education series: a call for proposals on the evolution of digital literacy using ICILS Data!
Proposals should primarily draw on ICILS datasets but may include additional data sources where relevant. ICILS collects extensive information on students’ computer and information literacy (CIL) skills, alongside rich contextual data from students, teachers, principals, and ICT coordinators.
Potential themes include school ICT infrastructure, informal digital practices, equity gaps, educational policy, and the influence of emerging technologies like AI.
Authors of the selected proposal will receive funding of up to €40,000 to support the development of the volume.

👩🎓In #ICILS 2023, released at the end of 2024, 53% of female students in grade 8 achieved a general proficiency level of 2 or above in Computer and Information Literacy (CIL), while 46% of male students reached this same level. This is the level where students demonstrate an understanding of the basic use of computers There were no participating education systems where male students outperformed females in CIL achievement.
And yet, despite these facts, on average across countries there was no reported difference between the general ICT self-efficacy of female and male students. Although female students performed better on average, they weren't more self-confident in their abilities to match.
Today is @ITU @UN International Girls in ICT Day - a great time to reflect on how we can encourage girls and young women to pursue STEM education, and inspire girls to work in STEM careers for inclusive digital transformation.
