The IGAD Secretariat has kicked off a #2Days TVET Mutual Recognition Pilot under the IGAD Qualifications Framework (IGADQF).
The pilot focuses on Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan and builds upon earlier regional assessments of labour market demand and the qualifications held by refugees, returnees, and host communities.
On behalf of the Director of the Health and Social Development @IGADHealthS Amb. Moussa @Meigague, the Education Program Officer, Mr. Fisseha Meseret, explained that the IGAD TVET Mutual Recognition Pilot represents a practical and transformative initiative under the IGAD Qualifications Framework.
He also noted that the Pilot establishes mechanisms through which qualifications, competencies, and skills acquired in one member state can be recognized and accepted in another which will facilitate labor mobility, improve employability, and contribute to economic growth and regional competitiveness.

The 3-day multi-stakeholder meeting on IGADโs regional engagement with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in #Arta, #Djibouti has concluded.
Participants agreed to:
๐ Build a shared understanding of TVET engagement in refugee contexts at both national and regional levels. ๐ Prioritize recommendations for policy alignment and stronger coordination mechanisms.
๐ Develop a draft joint action plan to enhance TVET engagement and promote inclusive skills delivery.

Today, in Addis Ababa, IGAD kicks off the second cluster consultation on the implementation status of the Djibouti Declaration on Quality Education for refugees, returnees, and host communities in three member statesโ#Djibouti, #Ethiopia, and #Somalia.
The meeting aims to strengthen cross-border learning, promote the exchange of best practices, and foster deeper regional cooperation.
Representing the IGAD Secretariat, Dr. Duguma Adugna, Chief of Staff to the Executive Secretary of IGAD, emphasized that the 2017 Djibouti Declaration marks a landmark commitment by IGAD Member States to transform the lives of refugees, returnees, and host communities through inclusive and equitable education systems.
The Cluster Two national consultation meeting brings together participants from Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

The #3days National Consultation on the Implementation of the Djibouti Declaration, the IGAD Qualifications Framework (IGADQF), and the development of the Somalia National Qualifications Framework (SNQF) wraps in #Mogadishu, Somalia.
The consultation brought together key stakeholders from Somaliaโs education ecosystem and facilitated critical discussions on;

๐๏ธThe status of finalizing and operationalizing the SNQF to support effective implementation and facilitation;

The @IGADSecretariat has convened stakeholders from the Federal Government of Somalia for consultations on the effective Implementation of the IGAD Qualifications Framework (IGADQF) and the Development of the Somalia National Qualifications Framework (SNQF).
Somalia is working to develop a comprehensive national qualifications framework that encompasses all levels and types of qualifications.
This consultation brings together key stakeholders to gather expert input, build consensus, and develop a clear roadmap for the effective implementation of the IGADQF and the finalization and operationalization of the SNQF.

The IGAD Qualification Framework (IGADQF) was adopted in 2024 to enhance mutual recognition and accreditation of qualifications across IGAD member states, facilitating the free movement of people and labor.
The participants visited the Nelson Mandela University of Science and Technology in Arusha and committed to drive progress towards a more cohesive and efficient regional framework for qualifications, benefiting both IGAD and EAC member states.
The East African Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (EAQFHE) was adopted by the ministers of the East African Community (EAC) in April 2015.

Experts on National Qualifications Frameworks from IGAD Member States are visiting @jumuiya for an Inter-Regional Learning Exchange, to support the implementation of the IGAD Qualifications Framework (IGADQF)
Representing the IGAD Executive Secretary, @DrWorkneh, the Senior Coordinator Senior Coordinator, Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (ESTI) Programme , Dr. Kebede Tsegay, said that the aim of the IGADQF is to enhance mutual recognition of qualifications and facilitating the mobility of citizens across the IGAD region.
The East African Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (EAQFHE) was adopted by @jumuiya ministers in April 2015, to harmonize higher education systems across EAC partner states and facilitate the mutual recognition of qualifications.
