A 26-year-old transport businessman was brutally assaulted in #Delhi's #Mehrauli after he tried to stop a group of men from molesting three women, police said.
The incident took place around 5 am on February 3 outside a tea stall opposite #AnupamApartment on #IGNOURoad.
According to police, the complainant, a beautician from Saket, was waiting for a cab with her friends when four intoxicated men present at the spot allegedly passed obscene and offensive remarks at them.
When a passerby, later identified as Mukesh, objected to their behaviour, the four accused turned on him.
The accused blocked Mukesh's way, pushed him to the ground and rained punches and kicks on him. One of them hit his head with a brick, causing severe bleeding and leaving him critically injured.
A tea vendor tried to intervene but was threatened and abused, forcing him to step back. One of the women recorded the assault on her mobile phone and called 112. By the time police were alerted, the accused had fled the spot on a scooter and a motorcycle.
A video of the incident shows a group of men brutally attacking the businessman, raining punches and kicks on him while bystanders looked on as the assault unfolded.
Police rushed Mukesh to Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital and later referred him to Safdarjung Hospital/AIIMS Trauma Centre due to the seriousness of his injuries. His medical examination confirmed multiple head injuries, temporary loss of consciousness, bleeding from the nose and mouth, and swelling around the left eye caused by a blunt object.
Based on the woman's statement, medical evidence and the PCR call, police registered an FIR under Sections 110 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
"Dedicated teams were formed to identify and trace the offenders. Through coordinated action, all four accused were located and arrested," a police officer said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
