Ways perfectionism interferes with OCD treatment:
- Need for "perfect fit" with therapist
- Need to perfectly describe experience
- Need to know that treatment will work before trying
- Need to do therapy perfectly
- Need to have no relapses

"They are feeling more anxious than they would have felt. But by changing their behaviors, they are given the opportunity to learn that they didn't need to be perfect." #IOCDF
CBT looks to intervene in the cycle of Beliefs, Behaviors, Feelings. This can be challenging unhelpful beliefs, but this isn't always the best approach for OCD. Instead intervening with behaviors (through ERP) can be more effective. #IOCDF
Crossover between organizational perfectionism and symmetrical or "just right" OCD:
"Perfection and organization of objects or even the perfection and organization of IDEAS."
The latter hits hard for me. #IOCDF

I can see how that would feed OCD to the extreme. I have to do whatever I can to stop feeling a "bad" way. Whether that's compulsions or avoiding. #IOCDF
Hearing that OCD diagnosis can take 11-15 years from the onset of symptoms is both wild and sadly my experience as well. I have journal entries of symptoms from when I was a teenager and didn't realize I had OCD until almost my 30s. #IOCDF #OCDTalkHour
