Commissioner @NYCHealthCommr has just resigned. In internal memo she says she submitted letter of resignation to @NYCMayor this morning.
“I’m a big girl,” @NYCHealthCommr says about the apology she never got from the @SBANYPD president, after he insulted her on @twitter. She’s concerned, though.
I want to thank @NYCSpeakerCoJo & @WomensCaucusNYC for their support, but also for their emphasis on values. My hope is that women of color considering positions in public service are not dissuaded by seeing those like them become the objects of dehumanizing insults and attacks.

#IStandWithOxiris not only because she’s a brilliant public health leader, but because I’ve been reading her subtweets since she was acting commissioner and can attest that racism and misogyny are underpinning the outrage.
When NYPD leaders like Ed Mullins treat our City’s top health official - a woman of color - w/ such utter disrespect, it reaffirms the police violence that our neighborhoods of color are experiencing & makes responding to the pandemic in our communities that much more difficult.
